چکیده
cer mortality in Taiwan, with more than 4,500 people dying of this disease in 2009. Malignant colorectal polyps represent the majority of early colorectal cancers. The term “malignant polyp” refers to a macroscopically benign appearing adenoma in which the invasive carcinoma is detected after histologic examination of the resected specimen. The muscularis mucosa must be breached to be defined as malignant. Colorectal polyps, both malignant and benign, can be removed via colonoscopy. However, it is not known which is the better treatment for polyps found to be malignant, polypectomy alone or polypectomy plus colectomy. It is very important to optimize the patients’ individual treatment and further surveillance. Pathologists play a critical role in management, as most of the clinical decisions concerning colonic polyp managemen...
متن کاملRegression of Colonic Adenomas After Treatment With Sulindac in Familial Adenomatous Polyposis: A Case With a 2-Year Follow-up Without a Prophylactic Colectomy
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by hundreds of colorectal adenomatous polyps that progress to colorectal cancer. Management of patients with FAP is with a total colectomy. Chemopreventive strategies have been studied in FAP patients in an effort to delay the development of adenomas in the upper and the lower gastrointestinal tract and to prev...

Mean age was 7.7 years, with a male preponderance ...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Surgery for Colorectal Polyps
BACKGROUND Size, location, and type of colonic polyps may prevent colonoscopic polypectomy. Laparoscopic colectomy may serve as an optimal alternative in these patients. We assessed the perioperative outcome and the risk for cancer in patients operated on laparoscopically for colonic polyps not amenable to colonoscopic resection. METHODS An evaluation was conducted of our prospective accumula...
متن کاملMinimally Invasive Approaches for the Management of “Difficult” Colonic Polyps
Traditionally, patients with colonic polyps not amenable to endoscopic removal require open colectomy for management. We evaluated our experience with minimally invasive approaches including endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), laparoscopic-assisted endoscopic polypectomy (LAEP), and laparoscopic-assisted colectomy (LAC). Patients referred for surgery for colonic polyps were selected for one of ...
